How to configure Outlook for the Mac for UCI Gmail accounts


If you have a UCI Gmail account and wish to access it using Outlook on the Mac, follow these instructions:

  1. Ensure “allow less secure apps” is enabled in your Google profile.
    • Please note that if you've enabled Google's 2-factor authentication, you'll have to generate an application-specific password for Outlook. These instructions will guide you on how to do that.
  2. Ensure that IMAP is enabled in your UCI Gmail account
    1. Sign in to your UCI Gmail.
    2. Click the gear icon on the top right of the page and select Settings.
    3. In the Forwarding POP/IMAP tab, under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP. It should now say Status: IMAP is enabled.

    1. In Outlook, select Accounts from the Tools menu.
    2. Click + in the lower left corner of the Accounts window.
    3. Select Email  (Other Email for Outlook 2016)
    4. On the Enter your account information pane, use the following settings
      1. Email address:
      2. Password: (your UCI Gmail password)
      3. User name:
      4. Type: IMAP
      5. Incoming server:
        1. Port : 993
        2. Check  Use SSL to connect box
      6. Outgoing server:
        1. Port : 465 (or 587) - either should work.
        2. Check  Use SSL to connect box
    5. Click Add Account.
