Introduction

This installation requires that you have administrator rights on the computer. If you are unsure, please partner with your local IT support.

Licensing Prerequisites

Before proceeding, you must have the provisioning file sent to you when you placed your order. The file includes all the Authorization Codes necessary to activate all of the extensions and products currently licensed by OIT. The provisioning file expires on January 30 of each year and must be renewed annually. There are separate order forms in the Service Catalog for employees and students. If you need us to resend it, please email oit@uci.edu.

If you are a CSC and purchased licenses for the Classroom Network License version of ArcGIS, do not use these instructions: we have separate instructions here.

If you just need to renew the license, proceed to the next section. If you're installing the software for the first time, skip to the next section.

Updating your Standalone License

For instructions on how to install ArcGIS Desktop (aka ArcMap), refer to these instructions instead.

  1. Open ArcGIS Pro and select the button labeled "About ArcGIS Pro" in the bottom left.
  2. On the next page select "Licensing" (on the left side of the screen) and then select the button "Configure your licensing options".
  3. The "Licensing" window will open. Change the "License Type" to "Single Use License".
  4. Click "Authorize" at the bottom of the window.
  5. The "Software Authorization Window" will open.  Select "I have received an authorization file and am now ready to finish the authorization process" and then click the "Browse...." button.
  6. Select the "ArcGISPro.prvc" file you downloaded from Google Drive and then select "Open".
  7. Click "Next".
  8. Click "Authorize with Esri now using the Internet" and then click "Next".
  9. On the next two screens, fill out the forms to register the license under your name and click "Next".
  10. On the next two screens, accept the default license numbers and just click "Next" on each screen.
  11. After the software is authorized, click "Finish".
  12. You'll return to the "Licensing" window where you started. Click "OK" to finish.

Download and unzip the installation program

  1. Visit our SharePoint site and select the ArcGIS folder. Navigate to the "ArcGIS Pro" folder, and select the zip file. A zip file is a compressed archive containing everything you need to install the software.
  2. When prompted, select the Download button.
  3. Once the file is downloaded, double-click the zip file and follow the prompts to unzip the file. By default, the files will be copied to a new folder in the same location as the zip file; however, your computer will allow you to save those files anywhere you want. The unzipping process may take a while to complete.
  4. Open the new ArcGIS folder on your computer and proceed to the next set of instructions.

Run the ArcGIS Pro installation program

  1. Double click the file you downloaded and follow the prompts to extract and install the software, agree to any agreements, and accept all the default settings.
  2. After the install is done, ArcGIS Pro will open and ask you to sign in. NOTE: DO NOT SIGN IN. Instead, click the "Configure Licensing Options" at the bottom of the window.

    • If you try to sign in, you'll see error messages that you are not authorized because the license you were given is a Single Use license, not a Named User license.
  6. Select the "ArcGISProAdvanced.prvc" file you downloaded from Google Drive and then select "Open".
