Introduction

Licensing Prerequisites

Renew License Only (no software installation)

If you just need to renew your SAS license, you can skip the installation steps below and simply run the Renew SAS Software application, which can be found by going to the Start Menu > Programs > SAS > Utilities > Renew SAS Software. Follow the prompts to apply the new license to your installation of SAS.

Installation

I. Mount the OIT Research Software Repository.

  1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E.
  2. Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive
  3. In the Drive box, select a drive letter.
  4. In the Folder box, enter the following info in the Folder line: [\\software.oit.uci.edu\software].
  5. Before your proceed, please uncheck Reconnect at Logon and check the box for Connect Using Different Credentials. Then click Finish.
  6. You will have to enter a username [software] and password [install] to complete the login.
  7. If a browser window does not open, please make sure you’ve spelled the connection information correctly. If it still doesn’t open, send us an email at oit@uci.edu.
  8. Navigate to the folder for the version of SAS that you want to install. Copy that folder to the Downloads folder on your computer. Do NOT run the installation over the network because it will take many hours to complete and will most likely fail.

II. Run the installation program

  1. Start the SAS installer by double-clicking on the file setup.exe . (You may be prompted for a username and password again in which case use the same username [software] and password [install]).
  2. On the select a language prompt, click OK.
  3. You should see a SAS Deployment Task screen which lists 2 series of options. Leave on Install SAS Software and click Next.
  4. Specify SAS Home. Leave default unless you wish to install to a non-default location. Click Next.
  5. For SAS Deployment Type choose Install SAS Foundation and Related Software and click Next . Do NOT leave on the default Perform a planned deployment.
  6. Select Products to Install. From the list of products, choose the products you would like to use by clicking on the box in the left hand corner next to the name of each product and click Next. If you are unsure leave default, as some options require additional configuration.
  7. Select SAS Foundation Products. Leave default unless you are sure of changes. Click Next.
  8. Specify SAS installation data file (license file). Click Browse and search for the SAS license text file provided by OIT that you downloaded to your local machine. Once you locate it in the Browse window, double click on the file. Then click Next.
  9. From the Select Language Support page choose your desired languages. For most users, choose Clear All (this will leave only English checked) then click Next.
  10. Select Regional Settings. Leave default if you are unsure. Click Next.
  11. Default Product for SAS file types. Leave default if you are unsure. Click Next.
  12. Specify SAS Document Conversion Host and Port. Leave default options and click Next.
  13. Checking System. SAS will run a series of tests on your machine to ensure compatibility and space requirements. Once it’s complete click Next.
  14. SAS Deployment Wizard. Click Start. SAS will run the system requirements wizard to ensure you have the proper private SAS Java runtimes. Install these files if necessary. If unnecessary click Finish and your installation should automatically continue. Once the installation completes click Next.
  15. Deployment Complete. Click Next.
  16. Select Support Option. Click Next.
  17. You will be presented with a series of support links for your reading pleasure. Or you may click Finish to complete the installation.

III. Unmount the Repository

  1. Right-click the icon for the mapped drive you created earlier.
  2. Click Disconnect.
